New to Radio Control? |
|
We would like to make your first venture into our hobby as pleasant as possible. We are currently working with local hobby shops to get a resilient plane and lots of spare parts in stock. There will be a couple of planes to choose from. No matter which plane you decide on, we will do our best to help you get going. Our introductory pilots will be capable of helping you set up the plane for its first flight, and in some cases will be able to help you fly with a buddy-box system. This is an arrangement where you both have transmitters connected together. If you start to get into a little trouble controlling the flight, the pilot can take over at the flick of a switch and help you avert disaster. This has saved many planes and helped novice pilots progress more rapidly. We will also have the ability to let you try to fly at the field before you invest any time or money. Then, if you like radio controlled soaring, you can get a plane of your own. We will try to have a plane or two available that you will be able to fly with an introductory pilot at your side. If you are looking to buy a radio, we can help you select a channel that is not used by one of our members. That way you won't have to wait to fly if someone is there with the same channel. There are 50 to choose from, so it shouldn't be too difficult. A list of currently used channels can be found here. The number to the left of the slash (/) is the frequency, and to the right is the number of planes on that frequency by that user. We will be updating this soon, so check back often. Better yet, come to a meeting or visit us at the field. If you decide to visit us at the field, please be sure to read our Field Etiquette page. We will be adding more to this page soon, so check back frequently.
Best Regards, The Long Island Silent Flyers
